Last Saturday we had our Road Rally/Amazing Race! Last year one of the couples put it on and they decided to do it again. They put so much work into doing this and thought! They told us they even stayed up until 3 am one night putting it together. It was a lot of fun! We met up at Andrew's school at noon and had a potluck lunch. We then were divided into teams they had already put together. We were put on the light blue team with Lauren and Braden. Our first clue was a word scramble and I saw it almost immediately. That clue led us down to the men's restroom on the third floor, we stayed to hold the elevator so no one else could get it and so we could quickly go. We went and our clue led us down the street to a park and we had to decode this clue using the saying below.
That first clue took us the longest and eventually led us to Gus's Fried Chicken. We got our clue there and it was a CD which played an Elvis song leading us to the Heartbreak Hotel next to Graceland. Funny story, the security guard was so funny when she saw us she immediately knew we were part of the race and told us right where to go and then was waving at us very excitedly when we left! Well I guess they changed security guards in the middle of the race and some other people had trouble getting their clue because the new guy wouldn't let them in and told him there was not a race going on. That was as far as we had to drive. Everything else was downtown and within 3 miles of the school. That clue led us back to the Orpheum theater where our clue was rolled up tight and sitting inside a street sign. That clue led us to Tom Lee park along the Mississippi River where they had to fill in the blanks which then led us to Boulevard Baptist Church (when they have their Graduation next year). That clue then led us back to Auto Zone Park where we were told to text a number for our next clue. That next clue led us to another park in downtown (we had no idea there were so many parks downtown, some we had seen/been to, others I had no clue were there). Our clue was inside the barrel of a canon at that park and it told us to head back to the beginning, back to the school . We went as fast as we could and got up to the 8th floor to find we were the first ones! Now they had taken into account each persons routes and had added time to some of the teams depending on which route you got (they entered each route into google maps and took each time listed and then made it all fair somehow). Plus we had a two minute penalty for calling to verify a clue at one of the stops. We ended up with a 5 minute total penalty and WON!!! We honestly thought we were slow and weren't going to even "place" so we were pretty excited! It was so much fun! They had hired a couple of the young women to come and babysit every ones kids at the school. Our poor kids were terrified when we left because we went running and told them they had to stay, Ella was so upset! She was just fine when we got back! It was such a fun day!
Here is the trophy our team won which has been at last years winners house on their fridge all year! We were so sad that the Anderson's got to take it home but it can't move with us. :)
This one got out of order but it was our stop along the Mississippi
