Grandpa Duzett's Obituary

H. Berg Duzett Visit Guest Book
June 11, 1928 ~ Jan. 26, 2012H. Berg Duzett
died peacefully on January 26, 2012 at the age of 83 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He
was born June 11, 1928 in Castle Dale, Utah to Robert and Vera Duzett. He grew
up in Emery, Utah. As a youth he loved basketball, horses, the Duzett family
store, playing the drum, and fishing. He worked in the oil fields and also
helped map the mountains in southern Utah. Berg married Nedra Blackburn in the Manti Temple in September 1950. Upon returning from their honeymoon, Berg was
drafted and served on the front lines of the Korean War. In October of 1951, Berg was wounded from shrapnel in North Korea. He received a Purple Heart medal and the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star. Following the war, Berg and Nedra enjoyed working together raising their family of four children and serving others. Dad enjoyed working in his garden and kept a beautiful yard. Berg was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed building homes, including two for his daughters. He was a master craftsman in his finish carpentry skills. Many have been recipients of his building talents. His strong work ethic is the legacy left for his family. Berg was a faithful member and High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many church callings up until the time of his death. Berg and Nedra served a wonderful 18-month mission to the VirginiaRichmond Mission assigned to the Albemarle Branch in Edenton, NC. Berg is survived by his wife, Nedra and four children and spouses, Lori (Talmage) Pond;
LeAnn (Randy) Gray; Janae (Dennis) Owen; and Todd (Lara); his three siblings Robert (Dawn); Marjorie (Bud) Maxfield; and Calvin (MaryLou). He was also the beloved brother-in law of Gayle, Hicks, Dwight, Dennis and Donn Blackburn and their spouses. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Dennis Blackburn, and two great grandsons. Services will be Monday, January 30, 2012 at 12 p.m. at the Olympus 3rd Ward, 4100 S. Camille Dr. (2500 E). Friends may call Sunday, January 29, from 6 to 8 pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, and Monday at 10:45 at the ward prior to the services. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the V.A. Hospital staff for their dedicated care and
compassion.

The Eyeball

Last Saturday Andrew and I went to a dance put on by the school called the Eyeball. I have wanted to go the last two years but have had a newborn both times. This year we didn't so I told Andrew we were going. He isn't big into dancing but I got him to dance we me for a few songs! We got a babysitter for the night and the kids were excited, Ella especially she loves Sydney!

We first met up with some other couples from our ward for dinner. My friend had called in reservations which they had no record of so we had to be split up into two groups. We went to a Mongolian Grill. We had to put together our own combinations of food and then they cook it for us. Some people didn't really like the food but I really liked mine. I really liked eating in peace!Our table with the Lants and Jackmans!The other part of our group!The dance was held in downtown Memphis at The Cadre. It was a really pretty venue. We had drove by it a few times in the past with lots of fancy weddings going on inside. It was a really nice place!We had fun dancing and spending time with friends! It was a free bar for everyone, people did plenty of drinking before though so a lot of them were drunk from the get go. A lot of the people we were with had some sort of alcohol dumped on them. The best part was watching some of them try to slow dance. One couple he had a drink in each hand and she had a drink in one hand an her purse in the other. They could hardly wrap their arms around each other. I enjoyed my Sprite :). We stayed for a couple hours and then headed home. Some of the greatest friends I have here, like my friend Heather said on her blog I will sure miss them all when we all part ways this summer!We had fun dancing together!

It got pretty crowded on the dance floor!More of us who were there, there was a lot more LDS couples there but to many to get a picture of all of us!

It was a fun night and I am glad Andrew would take me, he isn't a huge fan of dancing but he had other guys there to stand with!

Martin Luther King Day

Andrew like most people had Martin Luther King Day off. It is a pretty big deal here. Since he has pending boards coming up he spent the morning studying and then we headed out after lunch. We decided to go up and see the temple. Ella thinks that every big church here is the temple so we thought we would show her the real thing. The Memphis temple is actually really small, smaller than the stake center adjacent to it. It was really windy so we stayed for a few minutes and the gates were closed since it was Monday so we couldn't see much. After we drove over to the mall to go on the Merry-go-round and that quickly was halted by tears. Ella apparently remembers her last experience so we decided to go to the Disney store instead. We let her out of the stroller and she was in heaven. She couldn't believe all the princess and pink in the store. She wasn't happy to leave but 30 min was long enough in that store for me. It was a nice day and fun to see Andrew for longer than an hour. We can't wait until March 22 when boards are over!

Look Who's Walking Too!!!

Easton finally has decided to take the plunge and walk! He isn't 100% yet but he is starting to walk more than crawl! He crawls if he is in a hurry or if he is trying to get away from Ella! He is so proud of himself every time too! He is getting so big to fast!

These are from this morning. It is in the 60's today, clear skies and just beautiful! We spent our morning at the park and enjoying it! It is nice after our tornado sirens and horizontal rain from Sunday night! Ella sat on the bench and said picture so that is what we did!

She was so excited to be outside! She just loved running around!

Easton's First Haircut

A week or so ago we finally got around to cutting Easton's hair. It was way to long and almost embarrassing. We got out the clippers and Andrew went to work. Easton actually did really well. It isn't exactly easy cutting little kids hair but I don't want to pay anyone until he is a little older so he gets what we can do for now! He looks so much better now! He looks older and I love having it cut! It is like it made him grow up in a second!

I have said it before but he is so hard to get a picture of where his eyes are open all the way or not closed. He didn't like the hair falling into his eyes and onto his face!Just about done!After we got him into the bath to clean him all off and here is the end result!He looks so much better and pretty cute if you ask me but I am a little biased!

Kitchen

This year for Christmas I really wanted to get Ella a Kitchen. We ended up not getting one because we had enough stuff for them for Christmas and it just wasn't in our budget. Last Friday we went out to dinner with a gift card we had gotten for Christmas and then decided to go to Target right by where we were eating. We were just wandering and I saw this kitchen with a clearance sticker thinking maybe it had been marked down a little. I looked at it and it had been so I told Andrew how much he thought it was, he wasn't even close. It was originally $100 but was marked down to $25 dollars so we bought it! It isn't the one I wanted but it will do for now and I decided it is the right size for our kids ages and size right now. They absolutely love it. Really I don't know why something so simple has to cost so much! The fun part was getting it home in our little Accord and we were way up in Memphis not even close to home. We had the double stroller in the trunk and this huge box now. We got the box to fit in the trunk and the stroller took the front seat, which left me in the back seat between the car seats. The kids thought it was great, I thought it was a little squishy but I am glad I fit! This fun new toy has kept them busy for hours this week, and I have ate about 50 fake hamburgers that Ella has made for me :)

It is so funny how kids pick up on things, Easton put something in the microwave closed it and then started hitting when the button are and making a beeping noise like he was heating something in the microwave, funny how they just know how things work!

The coveted piece of the whole thing is the phone that came with it that makes noise. They fight over it non stop so for a couple of days it disappeared and it has been nice without it!
Santa really did pull through this year!

Little Princess

Ella has really come to love dress ups and purses and all things girl. She got this crown for her birthday from one of her aunts and she carries it around with her non stop. She has a collection of things she carries with her at all times. Another aunt gave her a purse the day we left Utah with her very own pack of M&M's and that purse is also attached now. She has random things in it and gets upset if something gets lost. One day she wanted her apron on which she then discovered had a pocket so she had to get something to put in it, one of her many phones is what she chose. She always has a necklace with her if not on she is holding it. She loves her princesses my mom bought for her when we were in Disneyland when she was a baby, she gets them out and tells me their names. Of course Easton is never aloud to touch any of this stuff or she gets highly upset. He has been having these short naps this week but I think it is because he knows she is asleep and he can get up and play with all of her stuff while she is asleep without her knowing, it is the first thing he heads to every time. People have been commenting to me about her since she was born about how cute or pretty she is and now every time we get dressed or do our hair she says "mom, I pretty" or "so cute" referring to whatever it is we just put on her. It is starting to get to her head already and she is 2! I just tell her you are beautiful on the inside and out!

Home

Tuesday the 3rd we flew home. Our first flight we flew into Houston and this time we actually had close to 4 hrs until our next flight so we were able to get something to eat and take our time getting to our next gate. We are getting pretty good at getting on and off of airplanes with all our stuff and kids and making our way through airports! Our kids were a lot better this time then they were going. I think it helps to fly in the day, they are less tired and it is light outside which makes such a huge difference. Easton slept for almost an hr on the first flight and Ella enjoyed watching a movie. Our second flight Ella was so tired, it was 8 before we finally took off again and she hadn't had a nap so she was out before we even taxied away from the gate. She slept the whole flight and woke up after we landed in Memphis. We gathered all our stuff which included 4 checked bags and a checked car seat, diaper bag, stroller, camera bag, and one other small bag. The airline was really nice and only made us pay for 3 of our 5 checked things which was so nice it saved us over $60! Thanks to the Lants for picking us up from the airport! Ella was so excited to be home, she had been asking for days if we could go, I would ask her go where and she would tell me go home. Every morning since then she has woken up and gladly exclaimed that we are home! Every time we go somewhere she gets really excited when she notices we are heading in the direction of our house! We had such a nice time at home in Utah but we were ready to get back to our house here where our stuff is.

They were both so excited to see all of their toys again. We had a hard time getting them away from them to eat and do other things they played in there non-stop for the first couple of days! Easton since we have come home has learned how to finally get in and out of the car and move backwards with his feet. He does on occasion fall and get stuck but he loves being able to get in and out of it!

Ella was happy to see her bed she just kept getting up onto it and burying her head into the blankets. It was nice to have a day at home before Andrew went back to school. The day he went back was his long day for the week so we knew dinner was going to be later so we made a fun snack after our naps. We made some Caramel corn from a recipe from Andrew's mom. It was so good and I had to stop myself from eating all of it. Ella thought it was the best popcorn she had ever had and sat and ate it with me!

Poor Easton just wants to eat and do anything that Ella does but he just isn't old enough for a lot it yet which makes him really upset but we did give him a try of popcorn and he loved it!

The Friday after we got home I got sick and couldn't get up off the couch, luckily Andrew was able to come home to help me. The next day I felt a little better when I got up but Andrew had a two day class Saturday and Sunday at the school which left me with the kids. I was grateful to be feeling a little better even though I still spent a lot of the day on the couch. This is what happened when Easton got away from me, I think he fell somehow in the kitchen and hit his eye on a chair. It bled a lot but I was just thankful it didn't hit his eye because that might not have been so great. Luckily it was only black and blue for a couple days and then went away!

Treehouse Museum

The week after Christmas Andrew's brother Matt invited us to come up to Ogden and go to the Treehouse Museum with them. The Treehouse is just a big children's museum. It has a big treehouse in the middle the kids can go up and down and different places to climb it. We went later in the morning and stayed until just after 1, so for almost three hours! It was a lot of fun to go around and do the different activities and see all the fun displays they had throughout. It was a fun day and great to be able to spend it with his brother and his family. Their kids had fun showing our kids all the ropes.

They had a cute little kitchen set up with an Alice in Wonderland theme. We all had to try on the big hat!

Ella painting the wall with water, she loved this!We went in the school house and these cute little boys were our teachers and wanted us to play along but Ella got bored with it after a few seconds!Ella and especially Easton loved the Tee pee. They had fun playing with all the things they had inside it and trying on different costumes. They have a huge music area that Ella went crazy in. It was fun to see all the different ways they had set up to make music, some you would never even think of!We had fun banging on the big drums!Outside the music area they finally had something Easton's height which he was so happy spending almost the rest of the time at!We did stamps and colored with markers......They taught us how to make chain snowmen in the arts center, then we colored and decorated them.We went down another hall and found this room that Ella was in heaven in. She loved all the dolls and especially the doll house. We couldn't get her to leave this room to give other people a turn. They loved the duplo table, Easton just liked that he could reach itTrying on different costumes
